Policy & Procedures
The rules and guidelines we set forth throughout the organization revolve around OSHA and general industry Best Practices. Not only have we developed a comprehensive written Health & Safety program which documents our commitment to safety, but we also continuously expand that program to reflect changes in our processes and lessons learned through its operation. This program, which is available to all our employees through paper copy or via the corporate intranet, serves as the foundation to a safer workplace.
Training
The most comprehensive written Health & Safety program is just paper without an efficient means of communicating it. In order for the policies to be followed and hazards to be reduced, all employees must know and understand their roles. This begins in training. The first days a new employee has at Glenroy are focused on issues of safety. The entire first day is devoted to safety and health training and introduction to our written policies and procedures. From there, employees are introduced to the hazards of their work area and how to best work in those areas safely and efficiently. In addition, we offer weekly training refreshers for all employees as well as more comprehensive monthly training sessions. These regular trainings consistently reinforce the safe approach to working at Glenroy.
Leadership
Lead by example, a critical component of Glenroy's approach to safety, is everyone's job. From the President to the newest employee, we all lead by example. This fundamental element provides the encouragement and motivation for everyone to improve their own work habits and those of the people they work with. We often call upon our own people to become the leaders and the trainers for specific elements of safety and allowing them to be our in house experts and those that others look to for answers and guidance. This type of an approach allows everyone in the company the opportunity to become a leader and to take a personal interest in elements of safety.
Constant Improvement
We as a company are always looking for ways to improve. This improvement takes many forms at Glenroy. Employees in each department audit themselves and other departments on key elements of safety. Any deficiencies noted are immediately addressed and often times corrected within a matter of hours. The added benefit being that the departments learn more about how all other departments function. We also rely on data obtained from incident investigations throughout the plant. These data, which includes accidents, first aid injuries and near-misses, provide a wealth of information and often times serve as reminders that safety is truly a process of continuous improvement.
